Cathy McLennan became the youngest barrister in Queensland at the age of 22, commencing practice with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legal service in Townsville and Palm Island. The cases she worked on during that time had such an enduring effect on her that she wrote a book about her experiences. Her memoir Saltwater won the 2014 Queensland Literary Award for Best Emerging Author. Cathy was recently appointed as a Queensland Magistrate, the first graduate of James Cook University to be appointed to the Bench.
