Attending Word Play

Information for parents and teachers

No backpacks!

A cloakroom is available for lunch boxes only. All school bags must be left on the bus. BWF is not responsible for any loss or damage to bags brought onsite.

What’s for lunch?

Students are allocated an hour break for lunch. Students are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Bubblers are located onsite for water bottle refills.

Food and drinks may be purchased from The Library Café, but cannot be consumed within the State Library of Queensland.

Book signings

Students will have the opportunity to meet the artists after each session to have their books signed.

Buying books

Students are able to purchase their favourite Festival titles on site at the Library Shop.

Want to jump the queue? Selected Word Play books can be pre-purchased online at shop.slq.qld.gov.au from mid-August for collection on the day. Call the Library Shop on 07 3840 7576 if you have any questions about pre-ordering.

Photography

Festival photographers will be onsite throughout Word Play to capture proceedings. These photos may be used in BWF marketing material. The purchase of a ticket implies permission to use photos taken for these purposes. Please contact BWF if you have any questions.

How to get to the Brisbane Writers Festival

Word Play is held in Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct on Stanley Street, South Brisbane. The site is easily accessible by public transport.

By train

South Brisbane train station is a 5-10 minute walk away.

By bus

Many schools choose to book a chartered bus, and there is a temporary bus set-down space at Stanley Place. Alternatively, the Cultural Centre busway station is a 5-10 minute walk away.

By car

There is a temporary set-down space at Stanley Place. Paid parking is available throughout the Cultural Precinct, and some street parking is available in surrounding streets.
